The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor College of Visual and Performing Arts completes the 2016-2017 Hillman Artist Series with the Schumann Chamber Players, featuring “Red Snapper” by Kevin Puts, a piece directly inspired by Schubert's “Trout Quintet”. Both pieces share the rare quality of being piano quintet with double bass instead of second violin, and are based on poetry and song. Dr. Schumann explains these shared qualities further:

"As we see time and time again, chamber music is an incredibly personal art form. In this concert, we juxtapose two composers who, although separated by almost two centuries, wrote music inspired by poetry they loved, commissioned by their great personal champions, and performed by close, intimate friends... for close friends.  Kevin Puts and Franz Schubert share many musical affinities which we are so excited to express in this concert."

Performing artists include Sandy Yamamoto on violin, John Largess on viola, Gregory Sauer on cello, DaXun Zhang on bass, and UMHB Professor of Piano, Michelle Schumann.
