Annual Student Art Competition

Students from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s Department of Art are enjoying the fruits of their labors in the Annual Art Student Competition at the Art Gallery in the Baugh Center for the Visual Arts. “Always an interesting display of student works, this exhibition publicly showcases the talent and artwork produced by the UMHB art students throughout the school year” said Ted Barnes, Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts. The exhibition also gives the art students the experience of submitting works to a juried exhibition in a professional setting.

The exhibit runs through April 7 in the Art Gallery at the Baugh Center for the Visual Arts. This year’s judge, Patrick Veerkamp, who recently retired from the Southwestern University Art Department in Georgetown, TX, selected numerous awards.

Honorable Mention awards were plentiful going to Laura Yates, Callie Millegan, Isaac Barnhill, Erin Dona, Rebekah Brooks, Rebecca Macias, Anastasia Hale, Victoria Redding, Jessica Theilacker, Samantha Juarez, Patti Cummings, Chriscina Lampkin, Madeline Hernandez, Ariana Baptiste, Ariel Davis, and Courtney Vela.

Third place went to Brandon Luna, Second Place to Maria Ramos, First Place to Danielle East, and best of Show to Rebekah Brooks.

Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free to the public. For information, please call the College of Visual and Performing Arts at (254) 295-4678 or the UMHB Department of Art at (254) 295-4675.
