Clara Barton and Civil War Medicine
Clara Barton was known as the “Angel of the Battlefield” for her nursing work during the War Between the States, 1861-1865. Susan Marie Frontczak's research into the life of Clara Barton helped her to debunk myths about how medicine was practiced at the time, as well as learn about advances in medical practice that we still adhere to today. Did soldiers really have to “bite the bullet”? Was the cure sometimes really worse than the disease?
Students are invited to a special presentation entitled Civil War Medicine and learn about this important period of our nation's medical history at 11:15AM in Baugh Performance Hall, Sue & Frank Mayborn Performing Arts Center. (Susan Marie will portray Clara Barton at 7:30 PM in Baugh Performance Hall.)
